Verbal Behavior Workshop
April 7-8, 2011
The Training Format: The 2-day Verbal Behavior Workshop for special education teachers, parents, speech and language pathologists, behavior analysts, in-home trainers, graduate students and direct care staff primarily consists of lectures that will introduce you to strategies and techniques to teach the functional use of language. Undergraduate students in special education, behavior analysis and speech/language programs are encouraged to attend. In addition, you will learn how to assess an individual’s primary language deficits and needs using the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP). The VB-MAPP is the latest assessment tool developed by Mark Sundberg Ph.D.
Workshop Description & Fees: The Verbal Behavior Workshop will be held on Thursday, April 7thand Friday, April 8th, 2011 from 8:00a.m.–5:00p.m. at the Dyes Walk Country Club in Greenwood, Indiana located at 2080 S. State Rd 135. The fee for this workshop will be $225 per person* and is limited to 50 attendees. Parking and lunch will be provided.
Other topics that will be covered include:

A functional understanding of communication and how it differs from the ‘traditional’ approach.

Building communication from motivation.

How to capitalize on the child's motivation to keep learning fun.

How to recognize issues that commonly interfere with intervention programs and implement strategies to overcome these barriers.

How to determine if and what type of augmentative communication system is necessary (e.g., PECS, sign language).

Where to begin teaching – the first few goals to make your Teaching career more rewarding (and learning less aversive for your students!)

Teaching Approaches: reinforcement; prompting; discrete trial; NET; Precision Teaching; Direct Instruction; etc.
